Babatal : A view tower has been constructed at Babatal in Karjanha Gaonpalika-1 Bandipur of Siraha, which is becoming a tourist attraction. The view tower has been constructed here due to the forest, picnic site, Shiva temple and park around Babatal, about two kilometers north of Bandipur Bazaar on the East-West Highway.

The view tower constructed by the Tourism Board was inaugurated by Kashiraj Dahal, Chairman of the High Level Administration Reform Commission, Dilip Shah, Member of the Provincial Assembly and Pradeepraj Kandel, Chief District Officer of Siraha. Chairman Dahal said that the panoramic view of Babatal can be seen from the view tower. Keshav Pokharel of the Lake Conservation and Promotion Committee said that 100 to 150 domestic tourists visit the lake daily.

According to him, more tourists come to visit the lake near the Chure region from November to January than in the summer. The National Development Battalion of the Nepal Army at Belsotha in Udayapur under the Presidential Chure Conservation Program in the Fiscal Year 2071/72 BS has built a picnic site, Shiva Temple, in the Babatal area. And a children’s park was organized.

According to Pokharel, students of schools and colleges come from different districts of the country. Tourists flock to the lake during the New Year and festivals. “Nepali, Maithili and Bhojpuri films are being shot in the lake area,” said Kopila Dahal, who has been running a shop in the lake area.

The entrance fee is Rs 10 and for a half hour boat ride on the lake it costs Rs 15. Gardens and kindergartens have been built to enhance the attraction. Committee chairperson Anjani Yadav said that foreign tourists are expected to come after the construction of the view tower. Dharamshala has also been built within the lake area for the convenience of tourists visiting Babatal, which is spread over about seven hectares. According to Dahal, locals are preparing to run a homestay in the lake area. The committee plans to blacktop the gravel road from the highway to the lake and operate a cable car.
